Apartment fire displaces tenants

Twenty people were evacuated and displaced tenants provided with 72 hours of emergency care as a result of an apartment fire at Glacier Apartments, Tuesday, April 29.

At approximately 1:55 pm Powell River Fire Rescue was called to the second floor of the apartment building in the 7000 block of Glacier Street. They were joined by auxiliary firefighters, RCMP, BC Ambulance Service paramedics, emergency services and city crews.

A press release from City of Powell River stated “the fire was confined to the apartment of origin with adjacent apartments being affected by light smoke damage.”

According to the release, “two residents were treated on site for smoke inhalation and one resident was transported to Powell River General Hospital with other health issues.” A temporary reception centre was established at Powell River Recreation Complex for approximately 20 people.

The fire is currently under investigation.
