Service is back on track after BC Ferries cancelled four back-to-back sailings on Saturday, March 11.
Four sailings between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale were cancelled due to a mechanical issue with the Queen of Coquitlam's main engine. An 11:50 a.m. service notice regarding the first two cancellations warned other sailings are also at risk.
The 11:55 a.m. sailing out of Horseshoe Bay and the 1:05 p.m. sailing from Langdale were cancelled. Just after 2 p.m., BC Ferries confirmed the 2:10 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay and the 3:15 p.m. departing Langdale were also cancelled.
After the 4:20 run from Horseshoe Bay, sailings on the route are expected run according to schedule, but the 4:20 sailing was delayed as BC Ferries continued to investigate the engine issue.
As of a 4:16 p.m. update, a 12-person water taxi will be providing complementary service in the meantime.
On Twitter, BC Ferries noted there is a high volume of traffic for Route 3 because of the cancellations, and said customers with earlier reservations will sail on a first-come, first-serve basis. Both the 4:20 p.m. sailing and 5:30 p.m. sailing were listed as full. As of around 4 p.m., BC Ferries was ticketing for the 7:50 p.m. sailing.
Finally, at 5 p.m., BC Ferries announced the mechanical problem had been resolved, though service will run approximately 50 minutes behind schedule.
