BC Ferries says a passenger “who aggressively drove his motor vehicle towards an employee at the Langdale terminal” has been banned from travelling on the ferry for a year.

The incident happened on the morning of Oct. 15 when, according to BC Ferries, the passenger pulled his vehicle out of the assigned lane at the terminal and drove directly towards a staff member, forcing the employee to jump out of the way

BC Ferries said this is the third ban issued in the past two weeks alone.

The others came after a passenger threatened the use of a firearm to an employee at the Horseshoe Bay terminal on Oct. 17 and a passenger assaulted an employee on the Coastal Celebration on Oct. 22.

“We are committed to providing our employees and passengers a safe and respectful environment,” Mark Collins, BC Ferries president and CEO, said in a release.

“The vast majority of our passengers treat our employees courteously. Abusive conduct or comments, or behaviours that put our employees or the public at risk, are not tolerated. These behaviours result in a denial of service, travel ban and the involvement of police agencies.”

The release said BC Ferries is committed to the prevention of violence in its workplace and that to protect the health, safety, security and comfort of its passengers and crew, the law allows BC Ferries the right to refuse passage.
