The latest numbers released by BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) on Wednesday, April 14, show 15 positive COVID-19 cases in the Powell River area. The cases were identified from April 4 to 10.

Residents are reminded to continue washing hands frequently, maintain physical distance from non-household members, wear a mask if unable to maintain distance of at least two metres, avoid unnecessary travel, refrain from gathering indoors, and limit outdoor gatherings to fewer than 10 people (always the same 10).

COVID-19 is spread by liquid droplets in saliva and respiratory fluids when a person coughs, sneezes and, sometimes, when a person talks or sings, according to the BCCDC. It can be spread to people who are within two metres of a person with the virus if droplets are inhaled or land in the mouth or nose of someone nearby. It can also be passed by touching contaminated surfaces and then touching the face, eyes, nose, or mouth, although infection from contact with contaminated surfaces appears to be less common.
