Logging activity

Logging has begun on private managed forest land.

On Wednesday, April 22, Morgan Kennah, Island Timberlands’ manager of sustainable timberlands and community affairs, announced the company’s activities related to land within the City of Powell River on Lot 450.

Island Timberlands (IT) began road building activity, Wednesday, to facilitate harvesting of timber over the next several months from the area close to the old Cranberry school.

Over the next few weeks work will also begin in two areas owned by PRSC upon which IT holds timber rights. One area involves the northern tip of the old incinerator waste transfer site, up to the pole line, across to the new track at Timberlane, down the side of Brooks Secondary School’s playing fields, and back along the east edge of Marine Avenue. The other area incorporates Townsite old golf course lands south to the haul road.

Kennah asks people not to enter areas of active logging, or areas with signage, rope or flagging across a trail.

More information with a map is available here and in Wednesday, April 29, Peak.
