Terminal construction on time

Refit and construction of both Little River and Westview ferry terminals is proceeding on schedule.

Deborah Marshall, executive director, public affairs for BC Ferries, said the project is going very well. “We will be doing a dock fit at Little River [Friday, February 7] and we expect to re-open that terminal on Saturday. Construction progress is on schedule at the Westview terminal as well.” The Westview terminal is expected to open March 10, 2014.

BC Ferries is investing $30 million at Little River and Westview terminals to upgrade and/or replace existing structures.

After the Little River terminal is open the new schedule will be put in place Saturday, February 8 to March 9, 2014.

The Island Sky will sail from Little River to Saltery Bay, a crossing time of two hours and 20 minutes. The vessel will leave Little River at 5:40 am, 2 pm and 7:40 pm, and will leave Saltery Bay at 8:35 am, 5 pm and 10:20 pm. There will be two stops at Texada Island’s Blubber Bay, one at 10:05 am on route to Little River, and the other at 8:50 pm on route to Saltery Bay. Reservations are required for this service 1.888.BC.FERRY (1.888.223.3779).

North Island Princess continues to service the route between Blubber Bay and Saltery Bay, a crossing of two hours and 15 minutes, keeping to the same schedule it has been running since the ferry terminal construction began. The water taxi from Texada Boat Club to Powell River’s South Harbour continues until construction ends March 9. A complete schedule for the water taxi is available on BC Ferries’ website.

The flight service subsidized by BC Ferries, between Powell River and Comox, has now finished.
