Heavy metal up-and-comers Nihilate will be playing an all ages show at Carlson Community Club on Saturday, July 16 at 9 pm and among the group are a couple of familiar faces.

Powell River-raised Wes Kennedy and Matt Frost are two parts of the five-part hardcore metal band based out of Vancouver that is striving to “overcome the current trends and divisions within the metal community and restore depth and integrity to songwriting and production.”

“Our style is pretty heavy and groovy at the same time, pretty relentless too, especially live,” said Kennedy. “It’ll be a pretty intense show.” The band is touring to promote its upcoming debut album, Synthetic Order, recorded at the Nimbus School of Recording Arts in Vancouver with such industry notables as producer Garth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Mudvayne) and engineer Scott Ternan (Fear Factory, Sam Roberts). The band describes the album as a “hard hitting, ear punishing 40-minute art of war” that will “prove Nihilate stands above the rest.”

Nihilate formed in 2005 and released its debut EP, titled Resistance and recorded in Delta, in 2010. Since then the band “has built a reputation as an intense live act, continuously working to strengthen and develop the overall audience experience,” according to a press release.

Tickets for the show are $15 and are available at the door or by calling 604.223.0341. Interested readers can visit the band’s website. Merchandise will be available at the show.
