Book for cooks

Lasqueti Last Resort Society has released a cookbook to raise funds for its Judith Fisher Centre.

The book, Cooking and Community on Lasqueti Island, includes 200 pages of artwork, recipes, photographs and writings about food.

It is edited by Annie Carrithers, Kathy Schultz and Sue Wheeler, and when launched at Lasqueti Arts Centre, attendees sampled food prepared from the recipes, viewed food-related art on the walls and listened to readings.

The recipes capture island life with local specialties including bullfrog legs and road kill deer, cookies served at roadside stands, film festival dinners and False Bay School lunch program.

The memories, anecdotes and straightforward advice found in the book present a sense of what it means to live on Lasqueti and its sense of place in the hearts and minds of the residents.

Readers can purchase the book by contacting Schultz at [email protected]. It sells for $25 plus shipping.

To find out more about Judith Fisher Centre, readers can visit the centre online. Lasqueti Last Resort Society is a charitable non-profit providing care to elders and others within an environment that honours individual choices.
