Art calls

There are two opportunities for local artists to participate in art and culture programs in the Comox Valley area.

One is participation in Originals Only. Artists across the region are invited to the event on August 8 and 9, which has been running for 13 years. It is hosted by Comox Recreation Department. All entries need to be “original and created by the artist who is present in the booth during the show.”

More information is available online. The event takes place at the Marina Park, Comox. Registration deadline is mid-July.

The second is to enter the 2015 Art and Culture Program for Comox Valley Airport.

A joint initiative between the airport commission and Comox Valley Community Arts, the program celebrates “Island Connections” and is open to artist throughout northern Vancouver Island the Powell River area.

Organizers are looking for two- or three-dimensional art representative of the “emotional, physical, literal and/or ethereal sense of being linked or associated with” island life and the island geography.

Entries are accepted online until August 31 and submission guidelines can be found under Airport Services/Art and Culture Program on the Comox Airport website.
