Power outage

A wide swath of Powell River lost power Monday night, October 22. About 3,000 BC Hydro customers from the northern part of Townsite north to Whaletown Road on Cortes Island had no electricity from 7 to about 10:30 pm.

Simi Heer, a BC Hydro spokesperson, said a piece of equipment on a three-phase distribution pole failed. “I’m told it was the ampact connection,” she wrote in an email. “The entire circuit kicked out as a result.”

All treat, no tricks

BC Transit and Powell River are teaming up to make Halloween a safe and happy celebration with free rides from 5 pm until midnight on Wednesday, October 31. The first 100 riders will receive a BC Transit safety light that strobes or glows, a gift that will draw attention to little ghosts and goblins while they navigate pumpkin-lined streets.

“BC Transit is a terrific solution for dedicated trick or treaters who want to cover a lot of ground or surprise friends in other neighbourhoods with their spooky costumes,” said Meribeth Burton, BC Transit spokesperson. “Transit is also the smart choice for adults who need to commute while in the Halloween spirit.”

Halloween isn’t just for kids, or even limited to people, Burton added. “Watch for our spooktacular BC Transit bus,” she said. “It will be wearing a Halloween costume too.”
