Catalyst announces boss

Former Canfor CEO starts October 1

A former Canfor CEO will take the top job at Catalyst Paper Corporation. Joe Nemeth will take over as president and CEO of Catalyst on October 1.

Nemeth was president and CEO of Canfor Pulp from April 2010 to September 2012. Prior to joining Canfor, he spent 14 years with Fletcher Challenge Canada, which was sold to Norske Canada, which later became Catalyst Paper. He is currently a director of Fortress Paper Ltd.

Former Catalyst president and CEO Kevin Clarke announced his resignation in April and left at the end of June. Leslie Lederer, a director and chairman of the company, took over as the interim president and CEO after Clarke left.

“Mr. Nemeth’s knowledge of the marketplace and his experience in the operational side of the pulp and paper process are well-matched with our requirements and will ensure the necessary momentum to keep pace with the very competitive global paper industry,” said Lederer in a statement.

Nemeth holds an MBA from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Forestry from the University of British Columbia. Born and raised in coastal BC, Nemeth and his family make their home in the greater Vancouver region.
