BATTLE FOR CHARITY: Powell River RCMP corporal Phil Caza [left] and Powell River Fire Rescue firefighter Sid Allman are set to face off for a third-annual charity hockey game, taking place on Saturday, April 6, at Hap Park Arena.

An annual charity hockey match between Powell River RCMP and Powell River Fire Rescue takes place on Saturday, April 6, at Hap Parker Arena in Powell River Recreation Complex, with the puck drop at 6 pm.

Last year, the RCMP won after a close game against the firefighters. Funds raised went to Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast, which corporal Philippe Caza, from the local RCMP detachment has participated in since 2021.

"After a close game [last year] the firefighters will be looking forward to coming back for a win," said Powell River Fire Rescue firefighter Sid Allman. "The proceeds this year will be split between two charities."

Powell River Professional Firefighters Charitable Society and Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast will split the funds raised at the hockey event.

"We have special guest appearances by two former Vancouver Canucks players, Dave Babych and Doug Bodger, who will be playing in the game," said Allman.

Allman gives praise to the main organizers of the event, Powell River RCMP officers Paula Perry, Jamie Parsons and Caza.

"We are looking to make a record crowd for the game this year," said Allman. "The trophy is up for grabs so it will be a great game to watch and all for a great cause."

Tickets are available for $5 each at Fire Rescue Station 1 on Courtenay Street, the RCMP detachment on Barnet Street, at TAWS on Marine Avenue and 460 Realty on Joyce Avenue. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the game.
