City of Powell River Council will no longer contribute to the business and expansion program that it has partnered in with WorkBC Powell River.

At the December 21 city council meeting, councillors voted unanimously to direct staff to respectfully decline the request from WorkBC Powell River to provide a financial contribution of $25,000 to support the extension of the business retention and expansion program contract for 2024.

According to a staff report, the city and WorkBC Powell River have partnered on the delivery of the program for nearly 10 years. However, the recommendation from former director of properties, development and communications Scott Randolph was that the city forgo the renewal of the program, and that the activities could be managed in-house by the community development officer.
