DRAFT DOCUMENT: City of Powell River’s draft annual report has been prepared and will now be available for the public to read and comment on at the next city council meeting.

City of Powell River has prepared its annual report, which will be available for public inspection prior to its adoption later in June.

At the May 30 committee of the whole meeting, city director of properties, development and communications Scott Randolph said under the Community Charter, the municipality is legislatively required to prepare a report on the past year’s activities. In the agenda package was a draft 2022 annual report for councillors to peruse.

Randolph said the 2022 report did not quite meet the objectives of the Community Charter, as a new strategic plan has yet to be completed.

“Despite that fact, this is considered a transition year, having been an election year, so the city’s corporate officer has reviewed the draft document and stated that it satisfies the legislated requirements as set out by the Community Charter,” said Randolph. “The next step is to provide the report for public inspection for a two-week period.

“In this case we will notify the public that it is available for inspection, and it gives them time to send changes or at least attend council when it is presented for a vote, to provide those in person if they wish. Any comments that are received will be provided to council at the time of that report.”

The annual report is available in hard copy at city hall and will also be available on the city’s website at powellriver.civicweb.net/document/125702/.

The committee carried a motion to make the draft copy of the Powell River 2022 annual report available for public inspection and refer it to the next council meeting (June 22), where public submissions and questions will be considered.
