City of Powell River council will forward a request from qathet Regional District (qRD) for a financial contribution to the regional public transportation service exploration working group to staff.

At the July 21 city council meeting, councillor George Doubt recommended sending the matter to staff members and asking them for a quick report on how the regional study would work in conjunction with studies about on-demand transit in the city.

City councillor Jim Palm said as a member of the joint working group, he believes Doubt’s suggestion to get further information before the city votes to hand over $5,000 for a working group study into on-demand transit in the electoral areas was a good one.

At the July 19 committee of the whole meeting, councillors received correspondence from qRD chief administrative officer Al Radke asking if the city, as a member of the regional public transportation exploration working group, had a desire to contribute an original $5,000 toward the study. The regional district received a $50,000 grant from the federal government in support for planning and design.

Council gave unanimous consent to send the matter to staff for review.
