Councillors approved a development variance permit for a vacant parcel on Saanich Avenue at the City of Powell River council meeting on July 7.
Councillor Rob Southcott said the subject property was at the south end of Saanich Avenue. He said there was a subdivision done between Saanich Avenue and Furness Avenue in 2006 or 2007 and there was one lot that was trapped at the end of Saanich, which was not developed according to a requirement back then.
Southcott said the variance is to waive a requirement to pave adjacent to the property, which would be consistent with the new addition of the infrastructure design and construction bylaw.
“It’s an example of how things were built before an awful lot of compliance plans went on,” said Southcott. “It’s a real kind of a dog’s breakfast up there. It’s most reasonable to leave things the way they are.”
