NEW APPOINTMENT: Tom Day, who has more than three decades of experience in local government, has been appointed the City of Powell River’s interim chief administrative officer until a permanent one is hired.

On behalf of City of Powell River Council, mayor Ron Woznow has announced that Tom Day has been appointed as interim chief administrative officer (CAO) effective May 8.

"We are pleased that Tom has agreed to bring his extensive experience and leadership in local government,” stated Woznow. “Council looks forward to his guidance and assistance in the hiring of a permanent CAO, developing a new strategic plan for the city and streamlining council meetings.

“Since our council took office on November 15, 2022, the interim CAO position has been filled first by Chris Jackson, and then by Alex Bjelica, who also had to manage their roles as corporate officer and director of human resources, respectively. Chris and Alex took on significant workloads, and we thank them."

The release stated that Day has more than three decades experience in local government, having served 25 years as a chief administrative officer. Tom and his wife Kathy have lived in Powell River for seven years and provide contract services to local governments across British Columbia.
