COSTING MORE: Users of Powell River Recreation Complex and other city facilities such as Dwight Hall [above] will be paying increased rates, starting September 6, 2025, and going up again on September 1, 2026.

Participants will be paying more for activities and services from City of Powell River’s department of parks, recreation and culture.

At the August 19 city council meeting, council voted to adopt the 2025 parks, recreation and culture fees and charges bylaw.

Councillor Earl Almeida said council tasked the city’s parks and recreation team to see how they could increase revenues.

“The changes that are being proposed account for about a two and a half per cent increase on current rates, and staff was able to even out a few of the passes that are available so that there is a more level playing field for all the different passes that are there,” said Almeida.

Various schedules in the bylaw set out rates for general admission fees to Powell River Recreation Complex, such as drop-in swimming, skating, hockey, the weight room and group fitness classes, starting in September 2025 and raising them again in September 2026. There are also increases to facility rental rates, such as the arena and rink, plus Winter Wonderland and the swimming pool.

Increases have been put in place for recreation complex rooms, Evergreen Theatre and Dwight Hall. Municipal park properties are also on the list of increases.
