by Laura Walz [email protected] City of Powell River’s grant application to fund co-treatment has been turned down.
The city released a statement on Tuesday, December 20 that announced it had received notification from Gary MacIsaac, chair of the Gas Tax Management Committee, that Powell River was unsuccessful in its Innovations Fund application. The city had submitted an application for about $7.2 million to fund co-treatment, a proposal to treat city sewage at Catalyst Paper Corporation’s Powell River division.
“I am disappointed that we were not successful in our application,” said Mayor Dave Formosa in the press release. “Early in the new year council will discuss the next steps for our liquid waste management plan.”
Earlier in 2011, city council passed a resolution to enter into a phased-in co-treatment-consolidated liquid waste management plan, subject to the city being successful in its grant application to the BC Innovations Fund for funding to connect to Catalyst’s treatment facility.
