Willingdon Beach will be busy on June 14 when Lift Community Services hosts its Community Fair.

Lift Community Services has announced the return of its Community Fair, which will be taking place on Saturday, June 14, at Willingdon Beach.

The free, family-friendly event is an opportunity for community members of all ages to engage with the diverse programs and services provided by Lift while enjoying live music, children’s activities and a barbecue lunch by donation, according to Lift.

“After the success of last year’s fair, in celebration of Lift’s 40th anniversary, we knew we wanted to bring it back,” stated Lift executive director Kim Markel. “It was a fun day and we heard from a lot of people who were pleasantly surprised to learn about the full range of programming we offer.”

Lift has operated in the qathet region for more than 40 years, offering more than 14 programs that include employment services, newcomer support, family programs, housing services, literacy outreach and community health services.

“It’s been a tough year for the community and our participants, including major cuts to our Immigrant Services program, and the closure of the community’s only shelter,” added Markel. “It has felt heavy for our participants and staff at times. This fair is an economical and fun way to bring people together and spread some joy.”

The event, which takes place from from 11 am to 2 pm, will include representation from each of Lift’s programs, family-friendly games and activities, a bouncy castle, hot dogs by donation and live music from local band Beach Crashers.

“Everyone’s welcome; this is a community event intended for all,” stated Markel. “Come by, chat with our staff, have some lunch, and enjoy the day with us.”
