City attracts track and field championship
City of Powell River Councillor Jim Palm announced that the annual North Island Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships will be held at Timberlane Park at the end of April 2013. He said the event attracts 250 to 300 participants.
“We’re going to do such a good job on that that we plan on turning that into an annual event,” he said. “That’s the start of more and more events coming to Powell River utilizing our wonderful facilities.”
Marine Avenue parking
Councillors denied a request for two 15-minute parking spaces in front of the Brown Bag Café at 4593 Marine Avenue.
Arts council
Councillors passed a motion to enter into a two-year service agreement with Powell River Council for Arts, Culture and Heritage for the distribution of funding to support and promote arts and culture in Powell River for the period from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013.
Variance permit
Councillors passed a motion to issue a development variance permit for 7360 Glacier Street to vary zoning bylaw provisions for the side setback from 1.8 metres and 2.5 metres to 1.8 metres on both sides to enable the construction of a new single-family dwelling.
