Police were alerted to an attempted fraud. An 89-year-old Powell River resident received a call asking that she send money to a female in Ontario. The phone number listed was 876.851.0852. The investigation revealed that this number is associated to a scam based out of Jamaica. To obtain information on recent scams and how to protect against scams, readers can visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

7500 block Duncan Street

At approximately 7 pm police received a report of a theft of a vehicle. The truck is described as a 1991 Ford F350, black in colour with a heavy-duty winch on the front bumper.
