1. February 16 and 17

Multiple locations

Overnight various items were stolen from five vehicles in the 4500 block of Cook Avenue, 4500 block of Fernwood Avenue, 5900 block of Mowat Avenue, 6800 block of Church Street and 4600 block of Manson Avenue. Items missing included a wallet, loose change, CDs, tools, an emergency kit and a pair of silver Oakley Sunglasses. In all circumstances the vehicles had been left unlocked. The police would like to remind all residents to lock their vehicles while left unattended and remove anything of value in order to help prevent future crimes. Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to please contact Powell River RCMP 604.485.6255 or CrimeStoppers 1.800.222.8477 (TIPS), www.bccrimestoppers.com.

2. February 17

Sliammon Road

At approximately 2:50 am a 1989 Chevrolet Sprint was observed being driven with a windshield completely covered in frost and no headlights turned on, making the visibility for the driver almost non-existent. The driver demonstrated symptoms of alcohol consumption but refused to provide a breath sample. The driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to provide a breath sample which resulted in the driver’s licence being seized for 90 days and the vehicle being impounded for 30 days.

3. February 21

A local business owner received a phone call from a male who identified himself as a utility company employee. The caller told the business owner that he was behind in his payments and unless full payment was received immediately the utility supply would be cut off to the business. When the business owner questioned the validity of the accusation the caller stated he’d call back and quickly ended the conversation. The business owner did not send any money. This is a reminder to all Powell River residents of a scam that has surfaced locally.

4. February 22

4400 block of Marine Avenue

At approximately 2:30 am a Dodge Ram truck was stopped by police. The driver demonstrated signs of alcohol consumption and subsequently failed a portable breathalyzer test. This resulted in the vehicle being impounded for 30 days and the driver’s licence being seized for 90 days.
