1. January 10

4500 block Joyce Avenue

Powell River RCMP responded to a complaint of graffiti at an institution. Sometime over the weekend culprits had spray-painted the back and sides of the building. Estimated cost to repair the damage is in the thousands of dollars. The investigation is ongoing and suspects have been identified.

2. January 12

4400 block Marine Avenue

Police received a complaint of a break and enter to a business. Forced entry was gained by smashing a front window. Once inside the thieves made off with a Samsung stereo and a small quantity of cash. The investigation is ongoing.

3. January 13

7100 block Kemano Street

Police received a complaint of a highly agitated male screaming profanities as he walked along the street. The complainant advised the male was yelling he wanted to die and the complainant feared the male was going to hurt himself. Patrols were made and a 45-year-old male from Powell River was located. The subject was extremely agitated and refused to speak with police. The male was subsequently arrested under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital where he received medical attention. No charges are being considered in this matter.

4. January 15

2300 block Zilinsky Road

Members of the Powell River General Investigation Section were conducting routine follow up on an unrelated matter when they had occasion to conduct a traffic stop. A 53-year-old driver from Powell River was detained for possession of a narcotic and several grams of cocaine were subsequently found on his person. The male subject will make an appearance in court in the near future and the file remains under investigation.
