1. January 4

7100 block Alberni Street

A traffic stop was conducted. After speaking to the driver it was determined that his driver’s licence had been suspended by the motor vehicle branch. As a result, the vehicle was impounded and the driver was issued a violation ticket for not possessing a valid driver’s licence.

2. January 5

Joyce Avenue and Duncan Street

A donation box was stolen from a business by an unknown male. The theft occurred around 1 am. The male suspect was described as 35 to 40 years old, approximately five  feet, 10 inches tall and 170 pounds. The suspect was clean-shaven with a goatee and was wearing a dark baseball hat and dark jacket. The donation box, which contained an unknown amount of coins, was destined to be given to BC Special Olympics-Powell River.

3. January 5

At approximately 4 am an unidentified person called 911. When RCMP dispatch asked what the emergency was, the caller stated the reason for the call was simply to say hello and proceeded to ask how many people were working. Upon realizing there was no emergency the 911 call-taker promptly ended the conversation to keep the phone lines open for callers who actually needed assistance. This is a reminder that 911 is for emergencies only.
