1. June 22
5800 block Mowat Avenue
At approximately 4 am police were called to a loud party. As the officers were approaching the residence a vehicle was driving by. The driver was stopped and during the interaction with the officer, the officer noted the driver displayed signs of alcohol impairment. The driver provided a sample of breath into a roadside screening device which resulted in a fail reading. The 46-year-old male driver from Powell River was issued a 90-day driving suspension and his vehicle was impounded.
2. June 23
5400 block Maple Avenue
At approximately 5 pm police responded to a complaint of a theft of fishing gear from a boat that was trailered in the alley. Sometime over the previous evening or early morning hours two fishing rods and a Scotty electric downrigger were stolen from the boat. The value of the gear is estimated to be $1,000. During the same time period a theft of a Scotty downrigger occurred to a boat docked at the Beach Gardens Marina. The RCMP is urging all boat owners to ensure their fishing gear is secured in a manner that will deter these types of thefts.
