1. May 6

Padgett Road

At approximately 7:45 pm a 2008 blue Ford F350 being driven south collided with a green Ford 150 that was being driven north. The initial investigation indicates that the driver of the F350 was distracted by diverting their attention to a cell phone. The driver was issued two violation tickets, one for using an electronic device while driving contrary to Section 214 of the Motor Vehicle Act which carries a $167 fine, and the second for driving without due care and attention contrary to Section 144 of the Motor Vehicle Act which carries a $368 fine. No one was seriously injured.

2. May 7

Palm Beach Road

At approximately 1:50 am a dump truck caught fire at a regional park parking lot. Malaspina Volunteer Fire Department attended and contained the fire and the RCMP attended to investigate. The investigation found that the truck had been stolen from a property near Highway 101 and Myrtle Rocks within the last day and then abandoned. 3. May 9

Marine Avenue and Alberni Street

At approximately 3:30 am a green Ford F250 was stopped by police after being observed driving with five passengers in the regular cab truck. It was determined that only one occupant was wearing a seat belt and the driver demonstrated signs of alcohol consumption. The driver provided two breath samples and failed both. As a result the vehicle was impounded for 90 days and the driver’s licence was seized for 30 days.
