Ferry schedule modified between Westview (Powell River) and Blubber Bay (Texada) terminals due to staffing issue

Island K’ulut’a ferry will operate on a modified schedule from January 6 to 9, share route with water taxi

Due to a staffing issue, select Island K’ulut’a sailings have been cancelled and the vessel will be operating on a modified schedule from January 6 through 9, according to a travel advisory from BC Ferries.

A complimentary 12-passenger water taxi will be available for those needing to travel on the cancelled sailings.

From January 6 to 9, the water taxi will depart Van Anda on Texada Island at 6 am and depart Westview Terminal (Powell River) at 6:50 am.

From January 6 to 9, Island K’ulut’a will sail the route from 7:50 am from Blubber Bay and leave Westview at 8:35 am. The vessel will also sail from Blubber Bay at 9:20 am and Westview at 10:20 am.

Island K’ulut’a will leave Blubber Bay at 11:25 am and Westview at 12:15 pm, and make another sailing from Blubber Bay at 1 pm and from Westview at 1:50 pm.

On January 6 and 7, Island K’ulut’a will sail from Blubber Bay at 3 pm and Westview at 3:45 pm. Also on those days, the ferry will sail from Blubber Bay at 5:05 pm and Westview at 6 pm.

On January 8 and 9, Island K’ulut’a will sail from Blubber Bay at 3:30 pm and Westview at 4:15 pm. It will also sail from Blubber Bay at 5:10 pm and Westview at 6:40 pm.

On January 6 and 7, the water taxi will leave Van Anda at 6:50 pm and Westview at 7:40 pm. It will then leave Van Anda at 8:35 pm and Westview at 9:20 pm.

On January 8 and 9, the water taxi will leave Van Anda at 7:25 pm and Westview at 8:15 pm. It will then leave Van Anda at 9 pm and Westview at 9:45 pm.

“We require a specific number of crew on board the vessel to ensure the safety of our passengers in the unlikely event of an emergency and to comply with Transport Canada regulations,” stated BC Ferries. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.”

The BC Ferries advisory stated that it is the corporation’s goal to inform customers as soon as possible of any changes to its scheduled sailings.
