A ban on all open burning, including campfires, will come into effect at 12 pm on Wednesday, July 18, in the Powell River region and throughout the Coastal Fire District.
The ban, which includes category two and three fires on all private and public land, will remain in effect until October 19 or until the public is notified by BC Wildfire Service. The ban is due to high temperatures and no rain in the immediate forecast.
Gas, propane or briquette cooking stoves are permitted if the height of the flame is fewer than 15 centimetres.
All provincial parks in the Coastal Fire Centre area, including the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, Crown land and private property are affected.
Violators face maximum penalties of $100,000 in fines and a year in jail.
