Firefighters respond to residential electrical fire

Overloaded panel fills home with smoke

Powell River Fire Rescue responded to a small residential fire on Monday, June 3.

At approximately 8 pm firefighters arrived at a home in the 7100 block of Westminster Street to find the residence’s electrical box in flames.

“They had an overloaded electrical panel,” said fire chief Dan Ouellette. “It filled the house somewhat with smoke.”

Although the fire was relatively small firefighters and an electrician, brought in to assist, spent almost two hours working their way through the structure looking for latent heat in the walls with their thermal imaging camera. They determined the fire was restricted to just the electrical box.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
