Forest fire burning in qathet region

A 1.5-hectare fire is burning at Daniels River in the qathet region.

A fire is burning in the forest land at Daniels River in the area near the head of Powell Lake.

According to coastal fire centre fire information officer Dorothe Jakobsen, as of 10 am on June 28, the fire was 1.5 hectares in size. It was discovered on June 27 at about 1 pm.

“Today, we have four helicopters, air tankers, an officer and 23 firefighters all working to suppress the fire,” said Jakobsen. “The fire is not yet under control.”

Cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Jakobsen reminded people that during the extreme heat wave British Columbia is experiencing, to be very cautious regarding open fires, and not to have them if people don’t have to have them.

“We would appreciate that,” she said.
