Fraud report leads to community reminder from Powell River RCMP

At approximately 2:11 pm on January 10, Powell River RCMP received a report of a fraud.

A resident received a phone call from a male who told her that her daughter had been in a car accident and was at the police station and needed money. The resident was instructed to e-transfer $2,000. The resident then phoned her daughter and they were able to cancel the transfer before the money was deposited.

Local police would like to remind residents not to send money to anyone requesting funds through an unsolicited phone call. If anyone has received a phone call or email and are in doubt whether it is legitimate, please call the local detachment for assistance.
