qathet region’s Conservation Officer Service wants to make the public aware of a grizzly bear that has been south of Powell River for the last few days.
According to conservation officer Leyland Klassen, the grizzly was sighted May 16. It was in the Donkersley Beach area during the morning of May 17 and in the Palm beach area during the afternoon. The grizzly bear has not caused any conflict or acted aggressively in any way, according to Klassen.
“The Conservation Officer Service is asking people to be bear aware and to keep dogs on leash or at home while in these areas,” stated Klassen in a written release. “This is also a reminder for people to manage their attractants. The Conservation Officer Service would like the public to leave the bear alone. We do not want it getting comfortable around people.
“We want this bear to succeed, and people’s actions will be a big factor.”
The public is reminded to call the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) line at 1.877.952.7277 for any human wildlife conflicts.
