Powell River Community Foundation distributed funding to five organizations that combine to offer a wide cross-section of benefits to the community at large.

At the Thursday, May 7, City of Powell River council meeting, Frances Ladret, director and grants committee chair for Powell River Community Foundation, highlighted the recipients of this year’s awards.

Ross Cooper, president of Powell River Community Foundation, said he remembers the formative stages of the foundation where $1,000 was given out, and how the group at the time was looking forward to providing more funds to community organizations.

“Now we are near $10,000 and I should be happy but I can’t wait until we give out $100,000,” Cooper said.

Acting Mayor Rob Southcott said he could not think of a better example of what this town is all about—the generosity and volunteerism that is part of this city’s fabric.

Recipients were:

• Cranberry Community Hall for exterior improvements.

• Life Cycle Housing Society’s Ontario Avenue apartment gardens.

• Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy’s 2015 youth engagement project.

• Powell River Academy of Music’s James Hall green room facility improvements and equipment upgrades.

• Powell River Parks and Wilderness Society high visibility markers on 40-kilometre section of the Sunshine Coast Trail.
