TRAINING TIME: Island Discovery, the new ferry destined for the route between Blubber Bay terminal on Texada Island and Westview Terminal in Powell River continues to conduct trials in the Powell River area.
On Saturday, June 6, the vessel was seen passing by Kent’s Beach [above], south of the city.
Island Discovery has been overnighting at Saltery Bay Terminal while preparing to take over for North Island Princess, which will be retired from the BC Ferries fleet once Island Discovery takes over the route.
BC Ferries is gearing up for an official start of service on Wednesday, June 10, according to spokesperson Deborah Marshall. A media advisory will be released on Tuesday, June 9.
