Journalist returns to childhood home

Peak Publishing has hired a news editor, part of the restructuring of its editorial department.

Dean Unger, who grew up in Powell River, has been writing, publishing and speaking in and on the media and communications industry for the better part of two decades. Over the last 20 years, he has been a music journalist, culture critic, consumer writer and science and ecology writer for magazines and newspapers across North America. After a challenging career in investigative journalism, he was hired as editor for BC Musician Magazine. From there he assembled a team of journalists and photographers and, together with publisher Brad Krauza, launched Gonzo - Music, Film and Culture.

“I’m looking forward to working with the Peak team,” Unger said. “I left Powell River in the 1980s to pursue my university education. It’s good to be home and working for the community newspaper.”
