Long-time editor and journalist Jason Schreurs joins the staff of Peak Publishing as the newspaper’s editor as of Monday, September 14.
Schreurs was born and raised in Powell River and recently returned from Victoria, BC where he was the managing editor of Nexus Publishing Society, the Camosun College student newspaper, since 1999.
Schreurs has done freelance editing and writing work for several publications in North America, including Alternative Press, Exclaim!, Vice and Coast Mountain Culture Magazine. Schreurs, also a former Powell River retail business owner, wrote for the Peak while he was living in Powell River in the mid-to-late ’90s.
“I am very excited to be back and I look forward to bringing a fresh perspective to the newspaper,” said Schreurs. “I have always read the Peak, even while I was living in Victoria for all those years, and the opportunity to be the paper’s editor has always been something I was interested in.”
Schreurs returned to Powell River in 2011, but has been commuting to Victoria for the past three years.
“Getting re-rooted in the community has been a big priority for me, and this position as editor is a perfect fit,” he said.
