I don’t think there is a person in the world who has never felt trapped in life. It could be a relationship that is not working for you anymore, or a job that pays well but is not challenging enough.
Maybe you have outgrown friends you have had for many years. Feeling trapped is like knowing how to swim but still sinking.
What habits contribute to trapped feelings?
When we feel trapped, indecisiveness sneaks in and fears become forever present, creating chaos in everyday life. So, how do we change this entrapment?
Make a decision that scares you
Like many others, you are probably waiting for the right time to find a job or leave an abusive relationship. We hope things might miraculously change without us lifting a finger. Sorry, my friend, that miracle doesn’t exist.
Here is my story of forever postponing: I was 10 years old when I started writing poetry and short stories. According to my family and friends, I was good at expressing my thoughts. It took me 50 years to publish my first article. You might ask, why did I wait that long? The answer is fear and the feeling of not being good enough.
While we are waiting, life is passing us by and problems get bigger and more challenging. That’s the time when we feel overwhelmed and ready to quit.
Seek a support system
When you feel trapped in life it’s so important to talk to a trusted friend or therapist. Sometimes the feeling of being trapped can be related to your health issues. See your doctor to get help.
Make small changes in your life. Little changes in your home, work or appearance can enormously help to improve your situation. Having a new haircut, a beautiful arrangement of fresh flowers or a tidy kitchen can help you to have a positive look at your life.
Simplify your life
Having lots of useless stuff in your home is a sure way to make you feel trapped. Let go of the things that don’t serve you or contribute to your well-being. If possible, try to sell your stuff and recoup some of the money. If not, you will always have a lesson that more is not better.
Be yourself; you are enough
Sometimes we feel trapped because we feel inadequate and hide behind a mask of who we are. Many people present an image of themselves to impress others or to fit in.
Every day performing without being paid is exhausting and degrading. Permit yourself to be authentic and different without concerns if you fit in.
These days our society puts so much pressure to conform and fit in. If you are contributing to your family and community, you deserve the title of being unique and beautiful.
