Dear Editor,
Re: "Richmond mayor shuts down meeting after 'offensive' remarks"
Be wise. It is only foolish to stop people from voicing their opinions, be they positive or negative, in a city council meeting.
It doesn't only impede democracy but also provokes more response from citizens and publicity in the media.
Even the prime minister has to take criticism and be accountable to citizens.
Why does the mayor think that councillors are exempted from criticism?
Who do the mayor and other councillors think they are?
Are they not paid by the citizens to serve them?
If they can't take criticism, they might as well stay out of the heated kitchen.
