Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Savary Island Land Trust (SILT) art auction has been online.
This coming Saturday, July 26, will be the first live, in-person, auction since then, taking place at Wynn and Robyn Woodward's home on Savary, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
"Initially I thought, 'wow, this is a lot easier,' [going online] but, in the end, we thought, no, it wasn't as much fun," said SILT executive director Liz Webster. "I think you can probably generate more revenue live, so the auction is on the Saturday, 26th of July."
The art available on auction is nothing to sniff at, as most of the artists are well established painters and art makers connected to, or live(ed) on Savary.
"We have incredible work on auction," said Webster. "I received a piece from my neighbour, his mother is the late Audrey Capel Doray, who is in the National Gallery of Canada."
Along with Doray's art work, which has also been shown at Tate Modern in London, there will be paintings by acclaimed artist Harry Stanbridge; plus, Dean vant' Schip, Trish Jodoin, Darren Claydon, photography by Dianne Cacchioni , and Joie jewelry creations by Rosie Harris.
"Audrey's been donating to us for years, so this may be the last piece we get from her, because she has just recently passed away," said Webster. "Most of the artists happen to be my neighbours."
SILT has been hosting art auctions since 1995 as a way to raise operational funds for the organization.
Folks can bid for pieces at 2752 Malaspina Promenade, starting at 6:30 pm, but artworks can be previewed on SILT's Facebook page.
A message from SILT about the auction: "Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 26, 2025: The Savary Island Land Trust live art auction for nature, hosted at the home of Wynn and Robyn Woodward, and featuring outstanding Savary art by talented Savary artists.
"All proceeds support land conservation on Savary."
