qathet Regional District (qRD) has announced the arrival of a mobile live-fire training lab for Northside Volunteer Fire Department (NVFD) live-fire training.

The lab, owned by the Justice Institute of BC (JIBC), is a 50-foot, self-contained semi-trailer that can be transported throughout the province and used for a wide variety of live-fire, rescue, and other first responder training scenarios. JIBC will be sending instructors and technicians to provide expertise to the NVFD while they train.

In the past, local firefighters have had to travel to Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland to receive live-fire training. With the mobile live-fire training lab, volunteer firefighters can stay in the community while receiving this critical training. Over the next two weeks, 28 firefighters from NVFD will receive live-fire 1 and live-fire 2 training.

Fire chief Jim Brown and members of NVFD made significant efforts in bringing the mobile live-fire training lab to Lund and have put in many hours of hard work, dedication and training to deliver vital local fire services.
