While Telus has pulled out of a potential site for a telecommunications tower in Lund, there is still interest in the community for a tower.

At the Thursday, January 30, qathet Regional District board meeting, directors voted to forward correspondence the regional district sent to Telus regarding the proposed cellular tower in Lund, to Ann Snow, owner/operator of SunLund By-The-Sea.

At the meeting, chair Patrick Brabazon said the regional district board sent a letter to Telus thanking the company for the initial effort, asking it to return to Lund to do a fair and comprehensive survey.

“The silence is deafening,” said Brabazon. “So, I think I’m going to have to follow up.”

Snow, in a letter to Telus originally reviewed by the regional district’s planning committee, stated that in Lund, a small seaside village and tourist destination, it is difficult to operate a business without cellular coverage.

“We desperately need cellular service here in Lund for our safety and prosperity,” stated Snow. “Please find a suitable place to install a cell tower.”
