At a meeting on July 5, qathet Regional District's (qRD) committee of the whole recommended to the regional board that qRD respectfully decline the opportunity of becoming receiver of the Lund Waterworks District.

According to a staff report, the current receiver, Tom Day, has submitted his resignation and is stepping down. The staff report indicated that qRD does not have capacity at this time to take on the responsibility.

qRD chief administrative officer Al Radke said receivership means the Lund Waterworks District board of directors has dissolved. He said they do not have a board to continue the operations and ongoing finances, so the receiver is doing that now on behalf of the province, using the same tools that the trustees would have used.

Radke said in this case, receivership does not mean that the waterworks district owes anyone money and is insolvent.
