BC Ferries (BCF) has confirmed president and chief executive officer Nicolas Jimenez will not be attending its June 17 community drop-in session in Sechelt.

In an email to Coast Reporter, executive director of public affairs Deborah Marshall listed senior managers slated to be at Seaside Centre from 1 to 3 p.m. for that day’s event. Those include its marine superintendent, regional terminal operations, customer experience manager, director of community relations, manager of community relations, and fleet and schedule management.

Marshall stated the drop-in is “an opportunity for the public to be part of the discussion and speak with our team about topics that are important to the community. It will be an informal session, the same format as the event held last November, with information boards around the room and staff on hand to answer questions. There is no formal presentation by the corporation at the session."

Something being added to the upcoming event is a “communications corner." That area will feature details on the “ways we are working on providing information” to the travelling public, according to Marshall.

In response to a request for an update on topics raised at the Coast’s last session, she stated the issue of priority access on the Horseshoe Bay/Langdale (Route 3) service for Sunshine Coast residents “is currently under review by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure."

As for the corporation’s plans for service adjustments on Route 3, she wrote, “Our 12-year capital plan, including additional vessels and service, is going through the approval process with the BC Ferries Commissioner. A final determination is expected by Sept. 30”.

Same date/location for next local FAC meeting

A local Ferry Advisory Committee meeting is slated to be held in advance of the drop-in from 10 a.m. to noon. That event is also open to the public.

“Topics of discussion for that meeting will include operational updates from Vessel and Terminal, Customer Experience updates and community relations updates," said Marshall. The agenda for that meeting is to be posted on the Southern Sunshine Coast Ferry Advisory Committee page on the BCF website.
