At 6:44 am on July 27, BC Ferries announced that the Salish Orca was returning to Little River (Comox) due to a medical emergency experienced by one of its customers, which required immediate attention. The scheduled departure time for Westview Terminal in Powell River was 6:15 am.

In an update at 7:34 am, BC Ferries announced that Salish Orca is operating one hour and 15 minutes behind schedule.

Despite the delay, BC Ferries is asking customers to arrive during the check-in window noted in their booking confirmation email to maintain their reserved status for the next sailings.

"This ensures we can stage your vehicle at the terminal ahead of standby customers and those reserved on later sailings," stated BC Ferries in a service notice. "If you are travelling without a booking today, check our Current Conditions webpage to see how much space remains available on today’s sailings."

"We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of this sailing delay," stated BC Ferries. "We wish our fellow passenger a speedy recovery."
