Missing person last seen near Saltery Bay in qathet region

Multiple search and rescue teams called for mutual aid support

MISSING PERSON: On January 13, 2024, at approximately 5:53 pm, Linda Diane Albert was reported missing to Powell River RCMP. Diane is a 68-year-old caucasian female described as being about five-feet, two-inches tall and having brown hair and blue eyes. If anyone has seen Linda Diane Albert or knows of her whereabouts, contact Powell River RCMP at 604.485.6255 quoting police file number: 2024-185.

The Victoria BC RCMP detachment issued the following media release regarding a missing qathet region resident on Thursday, January 18:

On January 13, 2024, at approximately 5:53 pm, Linda Diane Albert was reported missing to Powell River RCMP. Diane is a 68-year-old caucasian female, and is described as being about five-feet, two-inches tall and having brown hair and blue eyes. Diane was last seen by friends on January 6 in Powell River, but has not been heard from since.

On January 15, a resident of Powell River located a vehicle registered to Diane Albert on the trail to Fairview Bay and Rainy Day lake, near Saltery Bay, while hiking in the area. On January 16, Powell River Search and Rescue and RCMP police dog services were called in to conduct a search in the area, along with mutual aid from Comox Valley Search and Rescue, Campbell River Volunteer Search and Rescue Society and Sunshine Coast Search and Rescue.

Approximately 25 volunteers were also in the field helping with the search, but nothing of significance has been located. The search is currently suspended due to inclement weather, but will resume when conditions allow.
