Powell River Historical Museum and Archives reopened its doors to the public last month. Throughout the summer, hours of operation will be from 10 am to 3 pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
The forestry museum will remain closed for the summer, as the museum reorganizes its spaces.
As restrictions start to ease, the museum is offering a few summer programs that are still mindful of COVID-19 safety measures. Outdoor paper-making pop-ups will take place at Willingdon Beach in front of the forestry museum on July 10 and 24 and August 14. Children of all ages are welcome and can drop in anytime from 12 to 3 pm.
Throughout the summer, guided historical tours of Willingdon Beach will also be offered. These will be reoccurring on July 7 and 21, and August 4 and 18, from 1 to 2 pm.
The tours will start at the museum and take visitors along the waterfront, with information on First Nations history as well as some of the historical landmarks in the park. No registration is required for either of these events and participation is by donation.
For more self-led activities, through July and August, a free nature scavenger hunt kit can be picked up at the museum. Participation prizes are given out for those who go back to show their treasures.
Lastly, a recipe from the museum’s archives will be posted on its Facebook page (@prhmuseum) biweekly. Re-create it, share it on social media, and tag the museum for a chance to win prizes.
