NEWLY HIRED: City of Powell River has hired a new chief administrative officer, Sundance Topham, who will be assuming his new position on July 7.

City of Powell River will have a new chief administrative officer (CAO) beginning July 7.

At the June 19 city council meeting, mayor Ron Woznow said on behalf of council, he was happy to announce the appointment of Sundance Topham as the city’s new CAO.

“Sundance brings significant experience in local government, having served as CAO in Cumberland and Wells, and most recently as interim CAO for the District of Lantzville,” said Woznow. “He also holds diplomas in local government management and communications.

“We’re confident that his leadership will support both council and staff in advancing the city’s goals, and we’re pleased to welcome Sundance and his family as they make Powell River their new home.”

Woznow said it was impressive that the time Topham requires to take this new position with the city, from the time the job was offered, to the time of him arriving, is about a month.

“Some of you would know from similar situations that often, it takes three or four months,” said Woznow. “On that, I would like to acknowledge that our acting CAO, Mark Brown, has done an excellent job, which I'm sure he will continue to do until Sundance Topham comes here,” said Woznow.

Topham, in a city media release, stated that he and his wife are looking forward to settling in Powell River.

“I am eager to begin working with city staff, council, and community members to support the city’s ongoing priorities,” stated Topham.
