Following updates to provincial health orders, starting December 23, proof of vaccination is required to access all spaces beyond the lower concourse in Powell River Recreation Complex.
According to a City of Powell River media release, this includes common areas such as washrooms, showers and change rooms. Proof of vaccination must be provided at the reception desk.
The release stated that parents and guardians picking up and dropping off children do not need to provide proof of vaccination when confined to the lower concourse.
Public swimming and aquafit, public skating and drop-in sports are permitted at the recreation complex with proof of vaccination, according to the release.
Proof of vaccination exemptions remain in place for youth under 12 years of age, and/or those between 12 to 21 years of age who are participating in a youth/child program.
The fitness gym is closed, and fitness classes and programs have been postponed. Indoor organized gatherings of any size, including rentals, parties and other special events are not permitted at this time.
Recreation complex staff are reaching out to affected participants to prorate registration fees and coordinate refunds.
Masks are mandatory for everyone five years and older except when swimming, the release stated.
