NEW RULES: Travel by ferry to the Lower Mainland, including between Powell River and the Sechelt Peninsula aboard Malaspina Sky, seen here arriving at Earls Cove, is now possible for non-essential reasons with the lifting of some restrictions by the provincial government.

Residents of the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley regional zone, of which Powell River and the Sunshine Coast are a part, can now travel within the zone for recreational purposes, including on Saltery Bay-Earls Cove and Langdale-Horseshoe Bay ferries.

The provincial government announced BC’s restart plan on May 25, which lifted non-essential travel restrictions within the province’s three regional zones, but still restricts non-essential travel between the zones.

That means non-essential travel restrictions are still in place on the Powell River to Comox ferry route, because Vancouver Island is a separate regional zone. BC Ferries will continue to ask travellers on the Powell River to Comox ferry route whether travel is for essential reasons.

According to information supplied by northern Sunshine Coast ferry advisory committee chair Kim Barton-Bridges, BC Ferries will no longer be reminding customers that travel should be for essential reasons only, with the exception of routes connecting Vancouver Island and the mainland.
